L’Orpailleur, first certified vineyard in Quebec
It is with pride that we announce today news that reflects our commitment to sustainability: the Vignoble de l'Orpailleur has obtained Silver certification from GreenStep , an organization recognized internationally for its rigorous criteria in sustainable tourism.
What is GreenStep certification?
GreenStep establishes sustainability criteria aligned with international standards recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). This certification confirms that our vineyard has been independently assessed and verified according to high standards. In addition, these criteria are closely linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to protect the planet and promote peace and prosperity by 2030.
A commitment at the heart of our values
Since its foundation, the Vignoble de l'Orpailleur has placed sustainability at the heart of its priorities. We firmly believe in the need to respect and renew the resources of this land that feeds us. This is why we have committed, since 2024, to a certification process with GreenStep to structure our efforts and demonstrate our positive impact.
Concretely, what do we do?
Each year, we actively pursue our initiatives to reduce our ecological footprint and adopt sustainable practices, such as:
- Structure our actions by setting measurable objectives for each priority sustainable development issue.
- Practice responsible viticulture by minimizing the human footprint and studying the principles of sustainable cultivation.
- Promote biodiversity by participating in government and private research projects.
- Train and raise awareness among our teams while sharing our eco-responsible practices with our customers.
- Optimize our energy efficiency and reduce our GHG emissions by exploring innovative solutions, including carbon storage in our soils.
- Support the local economy by establishing partnerships with regional producers and suppliers.
- Promote responsible purchasing, by favoring local and eco-responsible products.
A recognized and inspiring approach
GreenStep’s Silver certification is a tangible recognition of our ongoing efforts. In parallel, Vignoble de l’Orpailleur has signed the Commitment to Sustainable Tourism by 2030, reaffirming its determination to align its activities with the sustainability principles established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
Sustainable tourism, as defined by the UN, is “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, meeting the needs of visitors, industry, the environment and host communities”. It is this vision that guides our actions and our mission.
