Cultivating the future
Le Vignoble de l'Orpailleur, the first GreenStep certified vineyard in Quebec, is committed to preserving the environment and promoting sustainable tourism in harmony with our land, for present and future generations.
Concrete actions for a sustainable future
The sustainability and resource renewal of this land that nourishes us are among the core values of L'Orpailleur's mission. Out of respect for our environment and a sense of duty to future generations, we make it a point of honor to pass on this heritage in a better state than we received it. That's why, since 1982, we have been cultivating the future by integrating and evolving sustainable practices into our daily lives.
International recognition: GreenStep Silver certification
We are proud to have obtained Silver certification from GreenStep, an organization recognized for its rigorous criteria in sustainable tourism.
This certification is based on international standards aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and confirms that our vineyard has been independently assessed and verified according to high standards.
Among our initiatives...
-
Our lightweight glass bottles
We have reduced the weight of our bottles to limit our footprint. This choice helps preserve sand – a non-renewable resource – and reduces transport-related emissions. Lighter bottles also ensure a safer working environment for our team.
-
Promote the local economy
Promoting local expertise is essential and part of the Vineyard's DNA. As the instigator of the Brome-Missisquoi Wine Route, l'Orpailleur attracts thousands of visitors each year, generating significant benefits for our community. Through our partnerships, we ensure the richness of our terroir shines.
-
Reduce single-use plastic
We are taking concrete steps to minimize our footprint, including eliminating plastic bags in the store. For our tastings, we favor compostable containers and reusable wooden boards. These conscious choices allow us to limit our environmental impact.
-
Optimize Our Energy Efficiency
To set measurable objectives and track performance indicators for each priority issue, we are currently participating in an agritourism cohort to conduct our carbon footprint assessment.
-
Adopting responsible viticulture
Minimize our impact on nature by applying the principles of sustainable farming.
-
Protecting Our Biodiversity
Since May 2026, l'Orpailleur has been recognized as "Exceptional" by the "Biodiversité aux champs" program. We will continue our research projects to protect and enrich local flora and fauna.
-
Circular residue recycling
Since 2023, L'Orpailleur has been diverting glassine (the backing paper for labels) from landfills. This material is now collected by a specialized company to be transformed into insulation for buildings.
-
Local Sourcing
L’Orpailleur prioritizes local sourcing, for example, by using 100% Quebec-made screw caps. By choosing local suppliers, we limit long-distance transport while promoting the expertise of our region.
Together, let's cultivate the future
Achieving GreenStep Silver certification is an important milestone , but it is just the beginning. Every year we renew our commitment to taking concrete action for a sustainable future.
We invite our customers, partners and visitors to join us in this commitment. Every choice counts to protect our planet and build a more responsible world.
Le Vignoble de l’Orpailleur – Proud artisans of sustainability.
